We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Chef with a real passion for food. We currently have an exciting opportunity and would like an experienced Chef to join our growing nursery!

Purpose of Role:

To prepare, cook and present age-appropriate food to high standards in a clean, tidy, safe and pleasant environment. To follow the agreed menus that you create with support form the nursery. Work in partnership with the nursery team and parents always to support the nursery care and education provision. Keep accurate records of supplies and order replacements as needed within the nursery budget requirements.

This role requires working in collaboration with others and taking responsibility for working in line with regulatory requirements and the nursery's procedures.

  • Keep the kitchen a clean and safe environment adhering to internal and external requirements
  • Encourage and model behaviour which is appropriate in a child environment being always professional
  • Make sure you meet the legal and company requirements for fire, safety, health & hygiene at all items and necessary paperwork is completed
  • Prepare and cook enough age-appropriate food for all the children and staff daily with minimum wastage
  • Take responsibility to make sure all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the team as well as menus followed
  • To respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality: for example, being aware of personal information regarding children
  • Support, promote and implement policies and procedures
  • Ensure you have completed Child Protection training every two years as set out in the Child Protection Policy and that this training impacts on your ability to safeguard the children in your care
  • Work in co-operation and partnership with the Nursery team and parents to encourage a healthy and nutritious diet
  • Ensure that budgetary requirements are met
  • Have an active role in leading the cookery club sessions with children.
  • Support the manager and work as a team to ensure a good or better inspection outcome
  • Understand the importance of keeping everyone safe
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach using your initiative and showing resilience to take responsibility for getting things done
  • Ensure stocks are managed and stock levels are recorded in line with company expectations.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in any role which involves cooking in domestic or commercial property
  • Pervious Kitchen management skills along with a stable hospitality background
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above or equivalent - this must be passed on day 1 in post
  • Sound Knowledge of COSHH
  • Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of managing different dietary requirements around food allergies.
