Contract: Term time Permanent
Our client is looking for a qualified experience SEN Support Assistant / Teacher for a three year old child working 6 hours per day Mon, Tue, Thu, Friday for this wonderful Pre-school nursery located in Bellingham SE6
Main responsibilities include:
- Work in support of a primarily non-verbal child with severe Social Communication Needs
- Observe, monitor and record individual progress and ensure the child is reaching its full potential
- Plan and carry out 1:1 or small group activities that foster the child’s attention, play and social skills
- Enable the child to participate in activities
- Help to fulfil the child’s sensory needs and physical needs
- Work in cooperation with the nursery team and external professionals
- Understand the child’s Educational Health Care Plan and ensure its recommendations are implemented for the child to achieve the next steps
- Discuss the child’s progress with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator, and the parents where appropriate
- Strictly adhere to standards, policies and procedures of Kindergarten Forest Hill, especially in regards to Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct, Behaviour Management and Information Sharing
Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- Fully qualified as Early Years Educator (NVQ Level 3) or higher (e.g. Early Years Teacher (EYT) or Qualified Teacher (QTS))
- Strong background in working with children with Social Communication Needs / Special Educational Needs
- 2-3 years’ experience of working in an Early year setting with children aged 2-5
- Enthusiasm for Early Years teaching and readiness for continuous learning
Key Competencies
- Fluent in English
- Ability to work independently and to integrate into a professional team
- Excellent knowledge about the development of children aged 2-5
- Excellent Knowledge of Special Educational Needs, in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Flexible and keen to help where needed
- Excellent communication skills with children and adults
