Job Details

We are seeking to recruit a passionate and experienced Nursery Assistant with a level 2 qualification and experience of working with children in a nursery setting.

The successful candidate will have a passion and special interest of working with babies, have effective communication skills and be able to work effectively in a large team. You are required to have an excellent knowledge of child development, safeguarding and be able to demonstrate a high level of practice and knowledge with children.

This post will be based within the nursery and you will be required to work with all age ranges.

This post is 22.5 hours on a Wednesday to Friday and is a maternity cover post for up to 12 months.


Main duties of the job


To work within a 50 place Day Nursery, caring for children from 3 months to 5 years. The post holder will be required to have a wealth of experience of children ranging from babies to preschool.

The post holder will have an outstanding knowledge of the EYFS and be able to provide exemplary care and education to children and babies.

Job description

Job responsibilities


  • To foster good relationships with parents and share with them appropriate information about their childs progress and development; on a daily basis and at parents evenings.
  • To maintain excellent communication and rapport with all children and parents at all times in order to ensure effective partnership with parents.
  • To communicate with other team members in the nursery.
  • Conducting observations on children and making accurate assessments on their individual progress.
  • Writing termly assessment reports for individual children.
  • To provide regular, interesting and varied play activities to create a stimulating environment for the age range through individualised planning.
  • To jointly plan and implement activities that support children within the guidance of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To set out on a daily basis, activities that promote the all-round development of children both indoors and outdoors
  • To carry out the highest standard of care in order to maintain the Outstanding Ofsted judgement.


Person Specification



  • NVQ2 Early Years Care and Education or equivalent Childcare Qualification


  • First Aid Trained



  • Sound knowledge of the needs of children from 0 - 5 years
  • To work in partnership with parents and colleagues Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures



  • Proven relevant experience of working with children from 0-5 years in a group setting.
  • Able to work efficiently and effectively as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills
  • Flexibility in working extra working hours as required
