Acorns is a small pre-school located in the heart of Masham, that provides exceptional care for children aged 2-5 years. Our ethos is to build the strong foundations of learning and development in a safe, happy and stimulating environment. Acorns constantly evolves to ensure an imaginative, fun-filled setting for young children to play and flourish. Activities are inspired by the children themselves using their inherent fascination with the world to develop learning opportunities that realise their natural potential, both as an individual and within a group.
Acorns is a community-led group overseen by an elected committee of parents and grandparents, who meet monthly to enable the smooth running of the setting. Parental involvement is highly valued and necessary to enable the effective running of the Setting. All parents/carers are encouraged to join the Committee.
All our Policies and Procedures are updated annually. These can be accessed via the website – acorns.masham.org.uk
The staff team, managed by Val Horspool, offers a varied balance of individual skills, experiences and dispositions. There is a strong focus on professional development and Acorns regularly invests in training to ensure members of staff are up to date on the concepts in early childhood education.
The Setting, at the rear of Mashamshire Community Office, was re-modelled and updated in Summer 2017. We have a secure outdoor play area and a natural ‘Jungle’ environment to offer ample outdoor learning. Our enviable location allows the children opportunities to experience and explore our local community. We are within walking distance of the library, primary school, church, market, shops and playing fields.
We are a registered charity and member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance and National Day Nurseries Association.
